Foracort 200 Inhaler is a prescription inhalation medicine used for the long-term management of breathing problems such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is a controller or maintenance inhaler, which means it helps keep symptoms under control when used regularly. It is not meant for immediate relief during sudden breathing attacks.
This inhaler contains two active medicines that work together to improve breathing:
Budesonide 200 micrograms
This is an inhaled corticosteroid. It works by reducing inflammation, swelling, and irritation inside the airways of the lungs. By controlling inflammation, it helps prevent narrowing of the air passages and reduces mucus production.
Formoterol fumarate 6 micrograms
This is a long-acting bronchodilator (LABA). It relaxes the muscles around the airways, helping them stay open for a longer time. This makes breathing easier and helps prevent symptoms like wheezing and shortness of breath.
When used together, these medicines help improve lung function, reduce breathing difficulty, and prevent flare-ups when taken regularly as advised by a doctor.
Foracort 200 Inhaler is commonly prescribed for:
Asthma, to control symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and breathlessness
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema, to help maintain easier breathing
How it works in the body:
After inhalation, budesonide starts reducing inflammation in the airways, while formoterol relaxes airway muscles and improves airflow. The effect builds up with regular use, which helps keep symptoms under control throughout the day and night.
How to use Foracort 200 Inhaler:
Shake the inhaler well before use
Breathe out fully before placing the mouthpiece in your mouth
Press the inhaler once while breathing in deeply through your mouth
Hold your breath for a few seconds to allow the medicine to reach deep into the lungs
Breathe out slowly
Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after use to reduce the risk of mouth or throat infection
Use the inhaler exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once or twice daily. Do not stop using it suddenly without medical advice, even if you feel better.
Common side effects may include:
Headache
Sore throat or throat irritation
Hoarseness or change in voice
Cough
Fungal infection in the mouth (oral thrush)
Mild tremors or fast heartbeat (due to formoterol)
Rinsing the mouth after each use greatly reduces the risk of mouth infections.
