Foracort 400 Inhaler is a prescription inhalation medicine used for the long-term control of breathing problems such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is a maintenance or controller inhaler, meaning it helps prevent symptoms when used regularly. It is not meant for quick relief during sudden asthma or breathing attacks.
This inhaler contains two active medicines that work together to improve breathing:
Budesonide 400 micrograms
Budesonide is an inhaled corticosteroid. It works by reducing inflammation, swelling, and irritation inside the airways of the lungs. By controlling airway inflammation, it helps prevent narrowing of the air passages and reduces mucus production over time.
Formoterol fumarate 6 micrograms
Formoterol is a long-acting bronchodilator (LABA). It relaxes the muscles around the airways, helping them stay open for a longer period. This improves airflow and makes breathing easier, especially during daily activities and at night.
Together, these two medicines help control symptoms, improve lung function, and reduce the frequency of asthma or COPD flare-ups when taken regularly as prescribed.
Foracort 400 Inhaler is commonly prescribed for:
Asthma, to reduce symptoms such as wheezing, chest tightness, coughing, and shortness of breath
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema, to help maintain better airflow and breathing comfort
How it works in the body:
After inhalation, budesonide reduces swelling and irritation inside the airways, while formoterol relaxes airway muscles and keeps the airways open. The benefits increase with regular use and help maintain stable breathing control throughout the day and night.
How to use Foracort 400 Inhaler:
Shake the inhaler well before use
Breathe out fully before placing the mouthpiece in your mouth
Press the inhaler once while breathing in slowly and deeply
Hold your breath for a few seconds to allow the medicine to reach deep into the lungs

Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after use to reduce the risk of throat irritation or fungal infection

Possible side effects may include:
Headache
Throat irritation or sore throat
